Fight for the infirmary continues

A donation box was circulated in the council chamber this evening (Wednesday 13 October 2010) to raise funds to pay for the room and microphone hire for the Friends of Our Hospital Public meeting to be held in November.
Councillors dipped their hands in their pockets’ and contributed more than £100 towards the fund.
Councillor Jean Ashworth of the Friends group is urging people to attend the meeting.
She said: “Come along and show your support, this is important for the whole borough.
“We are fighting for our hospital and we are trying our hardest.
“We can fight and we can win but we can only win by working together, fighting together and standing together.”
The Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Irene Davidson added: “We don’t want a little cottage hospital we want a fit for purpose hospital in our town!”
The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, added: “We should give all of our support together, it is important to get the message across to everyone.”
The public meeting will be held at the Rochdale Town Hall on Thursday 4 November at 6.30pm.
Councillor Ashworth concluded: “Bring your placards, your banners, let’s join forces and get everybody out there.”
