Deeplish Primary School
It was ‘Book Week’ at school this week. Children have been looking at plays by William Shakespeare, learning about fantasy creatures in books, looking at stories written by authors such as Eric Carle and Alan Ahlberg and much more.
On Thursday it was dressing up day and the school was filled with witches, wizards, ghosts, fairies, cowboys and girls, dragons and superheroes.
Mrs Campbell-Starling ran a competition where children wrote a review of their favourite book. The winners were Fawaaz in Key Stage 1 and Aneesa in Key Stage 2. Well done both of you.
Year 2 children had a lovely morning on Tuesday when they visited the library in the Wheatsheaf Centre. They learned about how a library is run and had a good look at the books they could borrow. The behaviour of the children as usual was excellent.
Year 3 and 4 children have been learning about Rochdale in the olden days during their visit to Touchstones museum. They looked at pictures of old houses in Rochdale and at a census form which showed them who was living in the Manor House during this time. Children were surprised when they realised that mums during those times couldn’t go to Asda to do their shopping because supermarkets weren’t around then. Again the behaviour of the children on these trips was a credit to Deeplish School. Thank you.
Our lunchtime “Superteam” of supervisors, JAMs and HALs had the first of, hopefully, many useful meetings to see how they could all work together to make lunchtimes at Deeplish a nice place to be. Ms Burrow introduced some games they could play with the children outside.
The new school council had its first meeting on Thursday; congratulations to Osama who was elected as chairperson, Anees as vice chairperson, Halima as secretary and Zainab as treasurer. Well done you four! All the other children will have a job whether it is checking the ideas boxes, helping Mrs Davis with the notice board or giving out the invites to the meetings. Ms Burrow and Mrs Davis were very pleased with the discussion around the table already this week about the design of the school ties and are looking forward to the next meeting on Thursday 21 October.
Attendance champions were Mrs Akhtar’s and Mrs Vickers’ classes whilst Early Bird certificates went to Mrs Taylor’s, Mrs Afzal’s, Mrs Clayton/Mr Dysch’s and Miss Kiely’s classes. 100% weekly attendance prizes went to Aneesa and Zain. Congratulations!
Please remember it is Parents Week 18-24 October and everyone should have had a programme of events and an invitation to observe or even join in with some of them. Please come along. Deeplish School appreciates the vital part parents play in the education of their children. Ms Burrow, Mrs Vickers, the Deeplish Parent Partnership and school staff are looking forward to welcoming as many parents as possible.
