Residents in Deeplish have been visited by the Rochdale Community Fire Safety Department and a Council representative this morning (Tuesday 12 October 2010) in a bid to raise fire safety awareness.
The key information was advice on reducing wheelie bin fires and vehicles fires.
A total of 300 houses were lettered and leafleted in the initiative.
Mick Cryer, Community Fire Safety Officer, said: “We have recently seen an increase of this type of incident, and it is important for residents to understand that a fire appliance tied up at fires such as these is potentially stopping it from attending an incident of a more serious nature”
Alan Bones a participation officer for Rochdale Borough Council has been promoting the councils “bring it back in” scheme where residents are encouraged to take their bins back in immediately after collection, and only place the bin out for collection on the day it is due to reduce the risk of an arson attack when the bin is full.
