St Andrew's, Dearnley and Smithy Bridge

Date published: 08 October 2010

St Andrew’s are holding their Harvest Thanksgiving service this Sunday (10 October).

Contributions of food items such as pasta, tea, sugar and tinned meats will be going to the Manchester-based Booth Centre for the homeless.

They have been coming in all week and anyone still wishing to contribute can on Saturday morning between 9.30am and 11am, when the cafe is open for tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches, or before the start of the Harvest Thanksgiving service on Sunday.

The service itself will be at 10am and follow on from today’s St Andrew’s School Harvest service.

Information packs about the Wider Welcome scheme are now available in the church. The scheme was launched on 1 October with an appeal to raise an initial £50,000 to achieve the next phase of a project to develop the parish room into a community centre for the people of Dearnley and Smithy Bridge. The overall scheme is estimated to cost £150,000.

The launch was well attended despite the weather, with refreshments including cake, tea and wine available.

The recently refurbished and upgraded kitchen is now used every Saturday morning and on the last Friday of the month at 12.30pm when there is a parish lunch.
