Car crash in Castleton
Date published: 08 October 2010
A car crash on Manchester Road, Castleton left a driver badly shaken and debris on the road.
At approximately 1.00pm on Friday 8 October, a silver ’06 Ford Fiesta Zetec crashed into a bollard and a lamppost, just outside the Royal Toby Hotel. The driver, a 34 year old Asian man who did not want to be named, explained he was coughing and reached for a tissue. “Then I found myself facing this way,” he said.
“It was over in a split second,” he continued. “I’m still in shock. I was just following the other cars, going at 30-40mph, I wasn’t going fast.” It was his first accident, he said, and he has driven for 16 years.
He complained his hand was swollen and he had chest pains from his seatbelt.
The front of the car was significantly damaged, and most of the bumper had fallen on to the street. His airbag had deployed and he had no further significant injuries. No other cars were involved and there were no passengers in his car.
A spokesperson for the police said, “I can confirm that we were called out to a car accident on Manchester Road just after 1.00pm. One lane was blocked for a short time.”
