RO web designer goes pink for charity

A member of Rochdale Online’s web design team is preparing for a gruelling gym session to raise money for charity.

Jon Pudny, 32, is taking part in a “gym-a-thon” at Fitness for Life gym on Rooley Moor Road to raise much needed funds for registered charity Breast Cancer Campaign.

Mr Pudny will partake in spin class, aerobics, rowing, running and more all of which will see him in the gym for two and a half hours on Sunday 24 October.

In an exciting twist to the challenge, Mr Pudny will be donning some form of pink clothing as part of the Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘Wear it Pink Day’ theme.

Mr Pudny has never done a challenge like this before, he said: “A 2 hour 30 minute workout is going to be a killer - I struggle to complete a 45 minute spin class

“To be honest the pink outfit is giving me more nightmares!

“I'm thinking of going for a vest, some short-shorts, headband, wristband and socks - all of course will be pink.

“Some of the other gym members will be wearing tutus and blonde wigs... it will end up looking like a hen party gone wrong.”

The event has been hosted at the gym before and it is hoped more than 30 people will take part. The event is also open to non members who can participate by paying £5 on the door – the only rule is you must wear something pink.

Mr Pudny hasn’t set himself a sponsorship target, he said: “I don’t really have a target. I'm working on the basis that every little helps.

"The gym managed to raise about £800 last year, so if I can contribute to beating that figure this year it would be great.

“I have set up the just giving account in hope that Rochdale Online users will offer some support to a really important charity... even if its only 50p it all counts and will be much appreciated.”

The Breast Cancer Campaign uses all wear it pink donations to fund innovative, world-class research throughout the UK and Ireland to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.

The charity currently supports around 106 projects worth £16.3 million in 38 centres across the UK and Ireland.
