Chip pan fire at Middleton flat

A 29-year-old man was led to safety following a kitchen fire in a flat at Hopwood Court, Middleton, yesterday (Sunday 3 October 2010).
Three fire engines were called to the scene at 02.05am after a neighbour had raised the alarm after hearing a smoke alarm sounding in the flat.
The fire-fighters from Heywood and Blackley forced their way into the ground floor flat, using a door ram, where they discovered a fire involving the kitchen of the ground floor flat - which had been caused when a chip pan was left unattended.
The fire-fighters used hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, the man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by paramedics- but declined further treatment.
