Jaw broken in Drake Street assault

Date published: 01 October 2010

A man had his jaw broken in an unprovoked attack on Drake Street.

At around 4.30am on Saturday 25 September, the 26-year-old was near Pizza King when a woman came over and pushed him.

Then a man, believed to be known to the woman, approached the victim and punched him several times, breaking his jaw.

The man is described as mixed race and in his late teens. He had an athletic build and short afro hair. His name could possibly be Sheldon.

The woman was described as white and 18-21 years old. She had long black hair and a slim build, and is approximately 5ft 8in. It is believed she could have been in the Pacific Nightclub with a group of women earlier in the night.

Detective Constable Nick Price, of Rochdale CID, said: "We work hard to ensure everyone who goes out has a safe and enjoyable time.

"When people think it is acceptable to launch unprovoked assaults we will do all we can to identify them and bring them to justice.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed the assault or thinks they know either this man or woman to call police."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 1977, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
