Hare Hill House moving forward
Date published: 21 September 2010
The future of Littleborough’s Hare Hill House is one step closer now councillors have agreed in principle to the transfer of the house to MoorEnd Development Trust.
MoorEnd Development Trust’s volunteer board members have been working for the past two years on drawing up plans and searching for funding to refurbish the building into a sustainable social enterprise and community space.
With the council's backing MoorEnd will now be able to apply for funds so that the scheme can go ahead if both the council and the community approve the project.
David Harding Chair of the MoorEnd Development Trust said: “Board members and the Hare Hill House working group have put in a tremendous amount of effort and time exploring various practicalities and uses of the building. We know that local people are very attached to the building and many would like to see it used as a pivotal community building. We have done this by working in partnership with the Council for the best part of two years and are grateful for their advice and support.
“We are doing this on the behalf of the community and hope our Community Builders funding bid is successful in order for us to further build a sense of community pride in Littleborough.”
Nick Andrews Hare Hill House Champion and board member said: “A detailed business planning process has been used to demonstrate that should the transfer of the building be successful it can be sustained financially in the long-term. As a community controlled asset we are looking to bring back the building into full use by renovating it into a sustainable social enterprise and community space that will strengthen the local community and at the same time offer business opportunities.”
