Date published: 21 September 2010

A man was attacked in Middleton as he walked back to his car.

On Saturday (18 September 2010), between 3am and 4am, the victim was walking back to his car when he was approached by two men at the junction of Oldham Road and Townley Street.

One man had a scarf covering his face and was carrying a knife. He made threats to the victim but did not demand any property.

One of the offenders then said to the other "Let's leave it."

The man was found a short time later and was helped into a taxi and taken to the police station.

He was later treated at hospital for injuries to his head and ear.

The man carrying the knife was described as white, 19 to 20 years old, 6ft tall of medium build. He wore a light cream hooded anorak style raincoat with a peaked hood and a light coloured scarf around his face.

The second man was described as white, 20 to 25 years old of slim build and 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins tall.

Detective Constable Russ Clark of Rochdale CID said: "We would like to hear from anybody who was in the area at the time of the attack and saw what happened.

"This appears to be an isolated incident but was unprovoked. If anyone has any information about what happened please call us.

"I would also like to remind people to be aware of their surroundings when out walking especially if you are on your own."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8745 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
