Pupils go wild for celeb at charity coffee morning

Date published: 20 September 2010

Parents of pupils at Hopwood Primary School had to hold back the crowds when wildlife presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle dropped in to serve coffee and cakes at their coffee morning earlier today (Monday 20 September 2010).

Katie Ford, a member of the Parent, Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA) at Hopwood Primary entered a competition to win Ben Fogle at her event and to her amazement, she won.

A supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support, Ms Ford said:“I’ve been supporting Macmillan since my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer so when I heard about the competition I thought I’d give it a try but never dreamed I’d win.

“I still can’t believe that we’ve had a celebrity at our school and the children were so excited. I think we’ve definitely raised a record amount for Macmillan this year!”

Pupils at the Heywood primary school found out late last week that Ben would be coming along to their coffee morning and have been busy baking the extra cakes and snacks for their special guest to help raise money for people living with cancer.

Headteacher Gill Sarginson said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ben Fogle to our school and the children are really excited to meet a real celebrity. His achievements, commitment and sense of care make him a fantastic example to children.”
