Almost 200 cannabis plants seized

Date published: 17 September 2010

Almost 200 cannabis plants have been found in a house in Rochdale, the second large seizure in less than a week.

At 7.00am on Tuesday 14 September, officers from the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team executed a warrant on a house in Gate Street. Members of the public passed on their suspicions, and the police visited the property with PCSOs and noticed a strong smell of cannabis. Then they discovered 185 cannabis plants spread across three rooms.

This was just 3 days after police discovered 127 cannabis plants in a house in Milnrow.

Sergeant Shoheb Chowdhury, of the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This is another great find that has come about as a result of information from the local community.

"To uncover one cannabis farm is great, to uncover two in less than a week is fantastic.

"We will always act on information provided to us by the public, so if anyone knows about the production of cannabis in the area, then please get in touch.

"There are tell-tale signs that residents can look out for, such as people coming and going at unusual times and the noticeable smell it produces."

Anyone with information on the supply of drugs in the area should call police on 0161 872 5050 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
