People across the world will be ditching their cars and commuting by bike next week.
The World Carfree Network is arranging Carfree Commutes in Manchester on the 21 September, as part of European Mobility Week and to promote World Carfree Day. This aims to highlight how reducing car use can make communities healthier, happier places and promote sustainable transport, and to encourage people to ride their bikes every day, as well as being an excuse for cyclists to meet up for a bike ride.
The Carfree Commutes start from various Manchester locations and end at the Triangle in the city centre at 8:30am. All participants can enter a free prize draw to win vouchers for FW Evans cycle shop and can get free coffee, tea and cake from Titchy Coffee Co. The rides will go at a moderate place and have experienced leaders.
Catherine Thompson, from Manchester’s Love Your Bike campaign, said: “Cycling is a quick, low cost and healthy way to get around. We would encourage people to give their cars the day off and try cycling to work.”
More than 1500 cities across Europe will mark European Mobility Week and Car Free Days have been officially recognised since 1997.
