Sixty-five newly qualified teachers who are working in the borough of Rochdale joined together for a welcome session this afternoon (Thursday 16 September 2010).
The teachers met at the Rochdale Town Hall to give them a chance to learn more about teaching in Rochdale and to meet other people in their profession.
The men and women are teaching a variety of ages and a variety of subjects across the borough and many are finishing the second week in their first teaching post.
They listened to guest speakers, engaged in a networking opportunity and also a bite to eat in the Grand Hall as part of the annual event.
The Executive Director of Children’s Services, Cheryl Eastwood was amongst the speakers, she said: “It is great to see so many newly qualified teachers joining our schools.
“We are very proud of our schools so we understand why they want to teach here in Rochdale.
Councillor Teresa Fitzsimons Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families added: “It is good to see the energy and skills of the newly qualified teachers – it is an important profession and I hope they have long and happy teaching careers because future generations depend on them.
“It is a very necessary job and a good job and it is good to have newly qualified people in it.”
