A Rochdale company that designs, installs and commissions fire protection systems throughout the country has recruited staff from the local area with the help of J21, Rochdale and Oldham’s labour into construction initiative.
Since April this year AM Fire Systems have called upon J21 to help them recruit a number of staff at their head office in Rochdale. The company was keen to employ local people for local and nationwide contracts.
Andy Edmunds of AM Fire Systems said, “The service that J21 provides is really benefiting us to recruit new staff locally.”
J21, supported by the Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder, helps local residents and businesses secure construction-related employment and contracts on major developments that will be delivered across Oldham and Rochdale in coming years. This will help sustain and grow the local construction sector, and address the skills shortage.
Amongst the vacancies, AM Fire Systems were looking to recruit trainee designers.
J21 worked with staff from Hopwood Hall College and The Oldham College to match up the right candidates for the jobs.
Ashley Williams from Heywood, who was appointed said: "After I finished my mechanical engineering qualification at Hopwood Hall College, it was great to get in touch with J21 who helped me to find work just a short journey from home.”
Angie Hough from J21 said, “After discussing what the company needed, we used our contacts within the boroughs of Rochdale and Oldham to select and recruit the right people for the jobs. Everyone was very pleased with the results and we would like to see more local companies using our free services for the recruitment of local labour. We have many excellent well trained candidates in Oldham and Rochdale.”
