Healey Primary School
Welcome to the new school year, we hope that it will be a happy and successful one for us all.
The new text alert system is up and running and all parents should receive text updates which are sent out from time to time. We are trying to reduce the number of letters sent out and replace them with text messages, this should help save money and the problem of letters being lost or left in bags. Please can you inform the school office if your mobile number changes. The texts are free.
There is a list of diary dates for this term attached, please keep it in a safe place. We will be adding further dates and you will be informed of those when they are fixed. There is also a regularly updated calendar on the school website.
One major change is that an extra non-pupil day has been added this year. This was set by the previous government prior to introducing a new curriculum. Although the plans for change have been dropped, the additional teacher training day has remained and will be taken on the 15 July, at the very end of the school year to minimise disruption for parents. School will therefore break up on Thursday 14 July, and not Friday 15 July.
We have three Parent Governor vacancies; Mrs Lovett, Mrs Whittles and Mr Burrows have all come to the end of their four year term of office. The Governing Body of Healey are a highly effective group of volunteers, meetings are one main and two sub-committee meetings per term. If you would like to become involved and learn more about the school and how it operates then you are welcome to apply. Governors are not required to have any special skills or qualifications – if you are interested in Healey, then you have all that counts.

Application forms for September 2011 (Reception Class and Secondary)
Closing date for Year 6 transfer is 22 October and for Reception 15 January 2011. Secondary forms have been given to Rochdale resident children. Children who live outside the Rochdale area will have their transfer form sent directly to their home address. The Reception application form should be in the school office any day now. The forms can be returned to the school office or sent directly to Pupil Services in the Council Offices at the Bus Station. Open Days and Evenings for secondary schools are now taking place and are advertised in the local press as well as in school. Year 6 pupils should have made note of some dates in their homework notebooks.
School Meals: £8.75 per week (payable Monday morning). We are finalising the new menus and will be available on the website.
School Bank: Banking day is Monday. Children may deposit through school. Withdrawals are made from the Royal Bank of Scotland in town. This is a good way of encouraging children to save pocket money for larger items. For more information/application form please contact the office.
Music Tuition: Letters have already been distributed to children. Lessons are provided by Rochdale Music Service at a cost of £2.75 per lesson which is invoiced half-termly.
Young Voices Concert: This year’s concert is on Tuesday 30 November at the Manchester Evening News Arena from 7.00pm to 9.15pm.
All choir children from Year 3 upwards have been given a letter. More details will follow shortly.
Jewellery: We have many children who have piercings – in accordance with Health & Safety parents are reminded that children should wear small studs only and will have to remove those for P.E. From Monday children who come in inappropriate jewellery will be required to take them out. This is a strict Health & Safety Rule.

Car parking
Parents are reminded again that the school car park is not accessible for anyone other than staff or disabled drivers / passengers. Parents must not enter through the gates for any reason – this includes turning vehicles round - unless using the Out of School Clubs or before / after school activities. This is an insurance condition in the event of an accident involving either another car or a pedestrian, you will not be covered.
Please also take care when parking on the estate as congestion is a problem and residents are now complaining directly to traffic enforcement in the event of any obstructions to driveways or pavement parking.
Pupils are able to cycle to school if they wish, we have cycle parking area – just ensure cyclists have the correct safety equipment (helmet) and a cycle lock. We will be launching cycle to school days and walk to school days in an effort to reduce congestion.
