Milnrow band’s ‘Oompah Band Night’
Date published: 11 September 2010
The Co-operative Milnrow Band held a “Oompah Band Night” at the Milnrow Workmen’s Club last night (Friday 10 September 2010)
Under the direction of band friend and supporter Dave Hebb, 15 members of the band, suitably attired in "alpine style costume" commenced their programme at 8.15pm.
The programme consisted of well known beer keller type items which required almost mandatory audience participation.
The bands president, Ken Watts said: “This event was a welcome diversion from intensive rehearsals and contest performances usually encountered by members of Co-operative Milnrow and will undoubtedly be a precedent to the hard work which will follow under new Musical Director David Evans.
“The relaxed attitude of the players both on and off stage was evident in their obvious enjoyment of the evening which was readily transferred to a very appreciative audience.”
A raffle organised by the band committee was conducted by Dave Hebb, assisted by John Smith (Band Vice Chairman) and an innovative competition which involved many of the audience was won by band supporter Glen Marsden.
Proceeds from the evening are to go towards band funds to help defray costs of the trip for its appearance at the Scottish Open Brass Band Championships to be held at Perth in November.
Mr Watts added: “The Co-operative Milnrow Band and committee would like to extend thanks to Milnrow Workmen`s Club and Committee for use of facilities, to noted representatives of friendly rivals Boarshurst Band and all others present at this most enjoyable evening.”
