Rochdale artist’s work on display at Towneley Hall

Date published: 06 September 2010

A Rochdale artist has put on an exhibition of his works at Towneley Hall in Burnley.

Geoff Butterworth FRSA BWS has been painting as a professional artist for 30 years, after giving up his career as an engineer following an accident.

His work is now highly prized and some of his original water colours now sell for prices in excess of £2000.

Mr Butterworth was asked by Towneley Hall to be Artist in Residence and to put on an exhibition of his works which will cover the period 4 to 30 September 2010 including Heritage Weekend.

On Saturday, (4 September 2010) Mr Butterworth, supported by his wife Andrea and his son Andrew, held a private viewing of a collection of new works entitled “The People, The Place” at Towneley Hall.

Several of Mr Butterworth’s paintings already have a red dot on the name plate indicating that they have been sold.

Geoff Butterworth has also been commissioned by Towneley Hall, financed by several Rotary Clubs in the area, to produce an original painting of the Hall.

This has been used to produce a limited edition print which is on sale at Towneley Hall during the exhibition. All prints have been signed by Mr Butterworth.
