St Andrew's, Dearnley and Smithy Bridge

Date published: 02 September 2010

The focal point of every action-packed week at St Andrew's, the parish church of Dearnley and Smithy Bridge, is the Choral Eucharist at 10.00am on Sundays. During that service we have an infant church for under-7s and a junior church for those aged seven to 11.

We also have the Eucharist at 8.00am every Sunday as well as Morning Prayer on Mondays and Thursdays at 9.00am. Newcomers can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome --- not merely in Church but also in the parish room, situated just inside Church, which is a hive of activity on many days of the week.

The Guides meet on Tuesdays from 6.30pm to 7.45pm; the Brownies are in on Wednesdays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm; and Mums and Tots, for children of pre-school age, get together on Tuesdays from 9.00am to 11.00am for play and refreshments.

The Friendship Club meets every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.00pm, enjoying dominoes, Scrabble, chess etc over tea and biscuits -- and good chat.

We hold a parish lunch at 12.30pm on the last Friday of the month --- an opportunity this for anyone from the parish to get out and meet new friends over a hot meal. Just tell us you are coming and you will be sure of a warm welcome. We also have a regular meeting point for 12 to 18 year olds.

Ambitious plans to extend and develop the St Andrew's community programme through a wider-welcome scheme will be announced shortly, as will arrangements for a back-to-church weekend on 25 and 26 September.
