Councillor visits day centre

A Rochdale councillor has visited a day centre providing training and educational opportunities.

Cabinet member for skills and economic recovery Keith Swift visited Petrus Day Centre to meet service users taking part in the ‘Eat Clever’ workshops, aimed at helping equip people with catering skills and a better understanding of how to maintain a healthy diet on a limited income.

Councillor Swift said: “This is the kind of activity we need to engage people who have had limited opportunities and have experienced problems in their lives. I am very pleased to see Petrus working in Partnership with Rochdale Council delivering courses such as this.”

Jonathan Wilmot, Project Leader for Petrus, is equally positive about the work being done. “With some funding from ‘Communities 4 Health’ Petrus are building on the training and educational opportunities already on offer and developing a number of short courses to help people develop skills and self-confidence, thereby assisting them in preparing to manage their own tenancies better and give them more options in accessing employment.”
