Almost 50 youngsters from across the borough have taken part in a summer tennis club during the school holidays.
A total of 48 school children between the ages of three and a half to thirteen years attended this year’s Summer Camp at Middleton Tennis Club.
The children enjoyed four days of coaching and a competition on the final day. They were then awarded prizes and medals by Jim Dobbin, MP for Middleton and Heywood.
Sylvia Decker the Tennis Community Coach for Rochdale and LTA registered coach at Link4life believes the success of this year’s camp was due to the strong links which have been established with local primary schools in recent months.
Children from local primary schools have been visiting the club during PE lessons and have been receiving coaching from Ms Decker as a class activity resulting in many signing up for coaching sessions.
With more schools already hoping to take up this opportunity from September it is an exciting time for Middleton Tennis Club who have recently had their courts upgraded are currently working hard to achieve ‘Clubmark’ status.
Sylvia added, “There are many follow opportunities available throughout the Autumn and Winter period for all age groups. At Middleton Tennis Club we play tennis all year round.”
