Tourist Information Centre shortlisted for award

Rochdale Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has been short-listed for a prestigious tourism award.

Rochdale was one of a number of North West TICs invited to submit an entry for the England’s North West Tourism Awards TIC of the Year after performing well in their Mystery Shopper exercise earlier this year.

TICs throughout the region have been routinely assessed by the North West Development Agency (NWDA) over the past two years in an attempt to raise and standardise customer service throughout the North West. Rochdale’s TIC, located in Touchstones and managed by Link4Life’s Arts and Heritage Service, has consistently achieved high scores of around 95 per cent.

Gwyn Fitton, Arts and Heritage Business Manager, said: “The TIC team work hard to consistently offer a first class service to visitors and residents of the Borough. Their knowledge and enthusiasm for the area is second to none. They are a credit to the Arts and Heritage Service and Link4Life.”

To qualify for the shortlist the TIC management were assessed on their use of resources, the range of services offered, customer service, investment in staff training and development and sustainability.

Three TICs from the Greater Manchester area were eligible to go forward for the award. Six have been shortlisted from the North West: Kendal, Morecambe, Preston, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Appleby and Rochdale

Staff will find out if they are successful at the England’s North West Tourism Awards dinner at Lancashire Cricket Club on Wednesday 29 September.
