Wardle man wins car in war on waste competition

Date published: 19 June 2006

By declaring War on Waste, Christopher Platt of Wardle has become the lucky owner of a brand new Ford Fiesta motor car supplied by OMC Ford in Castleton.

The war on waste recycling competition was run across the borough by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council with the aim of encouraging people to get involved with recycling. It was centred around a highly entertaining 5-minute DVD about kerbside recycling made by local students from Hopwood Hall College in Middleton.

Entrants had to answer a question in order to participate in the draw and we can now reveal that the winning answer was ‘B Lomax Street’.

The winner’s name was chosen by Councillor Wera Hobhouse, Portfolio Holder for the Environment who said: “Congratulations to Christopher for winning this car. We know that recycling is a long-term cost-effective solution to the challenge of landfill that we currently face and I hope that we can encourage more people to participate.”

Winner Christopher Platt added: “My recycling really has made a difference to me and thanks to Rochdale Council I can now move around the borough in a more environmentally friendly way.”
