Armed Robbery at Tesco in Middleton

Date published: 30 June 2006

Detectives in Rochdale are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at Tesco Express on Kirkway in Middleton on Thursday night (29 June).

Shortly before 11pm, three men went into the store with their hoods up and the lower part of their faces covered. It is believed one of the men was armed with an axe and another had a large knife.

All staff and customers were told to sit on the floor. One of the customers in the shop at the time was heavily pregnant and the offenders let her leave.

One the offenders then told the Manager of the store to open the safe and stole several bags containing cash.

The offenders then left the store, turning left towards a ginnel and got into a silver Nissan Primera car that was waiting there.

Nobody was injured in the incident but staff and customers were left extremely shaken.

Anybody with any information about this incident is asked to contact Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4897 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
