Balderstone School Prom 2010
Date published: 02 July 2010
A poignant moment in the long and distinguished history of Balderstone School as students of the last ever year at Balderstone arrived for their leavers prom at Rochdale Cricket Club.
Head of Year Stephen Holt talked with passion of the effort put in by this last year group to ensure the school went out on a high. He said: “They have worked incredibly hard to try and ensure really good GCSE results. They have been so focussed, I can’t praise them enough.
"It is very sad to see the school close, but we are going out celebrating.”
Mirza Baig agreed with Mr Holt, he said: “It’s been a brilliant year; we’ve worked hard but also had so much fun. It is hard to describe in words how I feel.”
Mirza also paid tribute to teachers and singled out Miss Galpin and Mr Holt for special praise, saying: “They are great teachers and they have helped me and others so much.”
Mirza is off to study A levels at either Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School or Oldham Sixth Form College.
Sabaa Hamied really enjoyed her time at Balderstone. She said: “It has been hard work but really enjoyable. All the teachers have been so helpful, I want to thank them all.
Sabaa is moving onto the new Rochdale Sixth Form College to study A levels.
