Re-appeal following fail to stop collision

Date published: 20 July 2006

Police are re-appealing for the public's help to trace the people responsible for a fail to stop traffic collision in Middleton on Saturday 25 June 2005.

One month after the collision the victim, Graham Richards (born 14/11/54) of Chelford Close, Middleton died as a result of a heart attack, brought on by a blood clot from the injuries he suffered.

An inquest, held at Oldham Magistrates Court on Wednesday 19 July 2006, gave a verdict of accidental death.

However, officers are still keen to trace the driver of the black Clio (reg J93 TVN) that was involved in the collision. The driver abandoned the car at the scene.

When officers arrived they found that two of the car doors had been left open, and it is believed there could have been other people in the car at the time.

Detective Sergeant Jared Sudworth from Rochdale CID said: "Although the coroner is now satisfied that Graham's death was accidental, we are still keen to trace the people involved in this collision as they did not stop at the scene.

"Graham suffered serious injuries but the people in the car did not stop to help him. They showed a blatant disregard for his welfare and ran away to protect themselves.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who knows who was driving the black Clio when the collision happened, to come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4646 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
