Award for Middleton Car Parks

Date published: 15 November 2006

Motorists in Middleton will soon be spoilt for choice when it comes to having a safe place to park their cars.

Thanks to a joint initiative involving Greater Manchester Police and Rochdale Council, three car parks in the area are to be given an award for their high level of security.

The Park Mark Safer Parking award will be presented to car parks on East View, Lime Trees Road and the Middleton Archer car park.

Brian Farr, Crime Reduction Advisor at Rochdale Police said: "This award recognises the high standard of these car parks. To gain this recognition, car parks must be able to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of a stringent risk assessment.

“I am pleased to say that all these sites are excellently managed and have all the necessary measures in place to create a safe environment. People should remember it is much safer to park in an approved car park, rather than leave their vehicles on the street."

The sites accommodate 146 vehicles in total and include disabled parking. All three are pay and display car parks and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Safer Parking scheme is an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.
