Armed robbery in Middleton
Date published: 24 October 2006
Officers in Middleton are appealing for information following an armed robbery on a cash in transit van, which took place on Monday 23 October 2006.
Shortly before 8.15am two security staff were making an ATM delivery to the front of the Tesco express store in Kirkway. As they were filling a cash machine they were approached by two masked men, one brandishing a machete, the other armed with a sledgehammer. The two men threatened the security guards and forced them to handover a substantial amount of cash before driving off in a silver Honda CRV 4x4 bearing false number plates. This vehicle, which was stolen from an address in Cheadle on 10 October 2006, was later reported being on fire on The Downs at 8.30am.
The security guards were not injured during the attack but were left extremely shaken by their ordeal.
If anyone has any information regarding this incident or has any information as to who the offenders may be they are asked to contact the Volume Crime Team at Rochdale on 0161 856 8632 or 856 8428. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
