Date published: 04 June 2007

A fire has broken out at a 16th Century listed building in Middleton.

Fire crews were called to Tonge Hall on William Street at about 0520 BST today (Monday 4 June), and found the first floor and roof well alight.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said an investigation was under way but the fire is thought to have been started deliberately.

No-one was injured in the blaze at the Tudor building, which has previously been targeted by vandals.
