Langley school best in the borough

Date published: 30 April 2007

A Langley school has become one of the best in the borough after scoring top marks in an inspection.

Staff and governors at Furrow Community School on the Langley estate in Middleton are celebrating after school inspectors were so impressed that they gave the school an overall grade one “outstanding” classification.

What’s more, all of the seven areas that inspectors looked at in compiling their report were also graded as outstanding. These areas are:

  • General effectiveness of the school
  • Achievement and standards
  • Personal development and well-being
  • Teaching and learning
  • Curriculum and other activities
  • Care, guidance and support
  • Leadership and management

The school’s head, Ms Chris Windle, said: “I am so proud of everyone. The inspectors’ report reflects the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm of everyone who works at Furrow, especially the children and parents who support us.

“We are a real team here at Furrow Community School and we are so proud of what we have achieved in such a short period of time.

“We are now looking to the future to continue our excellent work and ensure that Furrow Community School is looked upon as a centre of excellence.”

The school’s chairman of governors, Mr Terry Linden, said: "The inspectorate’s final conclusion of an outstanding school is, I believe, down to brilliant teamwork between the leadership, governors, staff, parents and especially all our fantastic children.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our outstanding team, they can all be very proud of themselves and the children.”
