Mayor puts his best foot forward

Date published: 16 July 2007

The Free4All ‘Day at Leisure' which took place at Middleton Leisure Centre and Civic last weekend proved an outstanding success, with hundreds of local people taking part in a wide and varied programme of Sports, Fitness and Cultural activities.

The Mayor, Councillor Peter Evans, was happy to join in and put his best foot forward at the Aerobics demonstration on Middleton Gardens to promote the benefits of health and fitness, whilst staff completed a number of free well-being checks to passers by.

Link4Life’s Area Manager for Sport and Leisure in Middleton, James Foley, said: "We had hoped that this Free Day at Leisure would be embraced by the community and we were not disappointed. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all from young to old and particularly demonstrated the fun element of our family sessions and the quality of service we strive to offer.

"This is just the start of a series of programmes on offer to the people of Middleton and the Borough as Link4Life are driving forward a number of innovative projects in coming months. The launch of Greater Manchester’s first SHOKK Youth Gym, partly funded by the Middleton Youth Sports Forum and the introduction of a Dance Fusion Zone to the Middleton Centre are those to particularly look out for over the summer.

“And of course, as we are now full steam ahead on the new Middleton Arena project, the future really does look bright!”
