Pupils take the lead as Oulder Hill Leadership Academy embraces season of goodwill

Date published: 04 January 2025

Students at Oulder Hill Leadership Academy led school-wide charitable endeavours as part of its Winter Gift Programme.

Helping to spread winter warmth to the Rochdale community, pupils have generously supported a local residential home and the Women’s Housing Action Group (WHAG), a charity for victims of domestic abuse.

Alongside the school’s head girl and head boy, members of the school choir visited the care home and WHAG to hand deliver festive hampers and perform a selection of carols, bringing smiles to the faces of residents and staff.

Organised by the pupil leader body, young people from across the school came together to generously donate £150 worth of chocolates, gift sets and toiletries for the festive hampers.

Year 7 pupils utilised their creative talents to lovingly craft greetings cards to include with the hampers, helping to spread festive cheer to their recipients.

In addition to their efforts across the local community, pupils also engaged in charitable activities within school, appealing for foodbank donations from their peers.

Through form time presentations, visits by pupil leaders and messages home to parents, pupils and their families showed incredible compassion by donating enough food to fill 22 crates.

The school’s generous donations were gratefully received by Rochdale Foodbank, who will distribute the food parcels to those most in need.

The Winter Gift Programme is an annual campaign which sees pupils and staff from every Star Academies school unite to participate in a broad range of charitable giving, acts of kindness and volunteering; all with one simple aim – to make sure no one faces the challenges of winter alone.
