Date published: 10 December 2024

Two children suffered serious injuries following a crash close to Rochdale town centre last night (Monday 9 December).

Emergency services were called out to Yorkshire Street shortly after 7pm yesterday following a collision involving two cars, before two women and two children were recovered from the vehicles.

Greater Manchester Police said today (Tuesday 10 December) that the two children suffered 'potentially life-changing injuries'.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said on Monday: “Just after 7pm this evening (Monday 9 December), two fire engines from Rochdale central fire station, along with the Enhanced Rescue Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale. Crews arrived quickly at the scene.

"Firefighters used stabilisation equipment, lighting and an environmental pack to make the area safe and rescue two women and two children from the vehicles, before they were taken to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and fifteen minutes.”
