Littleborough community joins together for festive light switch-on

Date published: 03 December 2024

The annual Littleborough Christmas lights switch-on drew crowds to Littleborough on Saturday (30 November) delivering festive cheer and showcasing local talent.

Organised by Littleborough Events and Activities Forum (LEAF), the event featured performances from local groups, festive stalls, and fairground activities.

Performances by Wardle Junior Blast, St Mary’s and Stansfield School Choirs, and the Littleborough Brass Band delighted the audience and set the tone for the evening.

This year, the honour of switching on the lights went to Xander, a Smithy Bridge Primary School pupil and winner of the Littleborough Lions Peace Poster competition. Xander was joined by Santa Claus, his cheerful elves, and the deputy Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Janet Elmsley.

Zoe Attwood, chair of LEAF, highlighted the event's growing success, saying, “Every year, the lights switch-on just gets better and better. This year, Nomis Installations and Rochdale Council helped with funding, and we’re really thankful to them. We also had lots of new people volunteer on the day, making the event great all round.”

The lights switch-on continues to strengthen its connection with Rochdale, celebrating the area's community spirit and fostering partnerships.
