Despite her new role as a mother, Elsie reassured her constituents that she remains committed to representing the people of Heywood and Middleton North.

She said: "We are both excited to be able to spend time with our daughter in her early days, however, I want to reassure everyone that my commitment to represent and champion the people of Heywood and Middleton North will continue during this time."

She outlined the measures in place to ensure that local residents continue to receive support. "Over the next few months, detailed plans are in place to ensure there is no break in service for constituents who need support."

In her statement, the MP reaffirmed her commitment to the key issues she campaigned on during the election. She continued: "We will continue to represent my constituents on the issues I campaigned for, pushing national government and Greater Manchester for greater investment in transport infrastructure and services in the area."

Elsie also confirmed that she will still participate in parliamentary voting through a proxy arrangement, and she she will also still vote on the important issues in Parliament.

Expressing her pride in raising her daughter locally, Elsie praised the UK's healthcare system and public services.

She said: “It is a privilege to raise my child locally and to represent Heywood and Middleton North, in a country with an excellent National Health Service and in a society that values these special early days with newborns.

"Like many new mothers, I am about to experience some of the best care in the world, and I am proud to support a Government that wants to protect and invest in public services."
