Dumped waste removed in litter picking project

Date published: 16 September 2024

Bags of litter and dumped waste has been removed from an area in Rochdale after a successful litter picking session on Lock 50 Business Centre on Crawford Street.

Organised by Living Well Rochdale, the project saw the collection of six bags of litter and reported fly-tipping.

Jo, programme lead, commented: "Everyone who helped on the day said that they found the experience very positive for their wellbeing and helping to look after the environment.

"It’s good to know that taking some time out of our working day to look after our environment helps create a safer, cleaner space for our community.”

How to organise a litter pick

When deciding to hold a litter pick, here are a few steps for you to consider, according to the Rochdale Council website:

  • Choose an area to tidy up. You might want to consider routes to schools, parks, playgrounds, public footpaths, green spaces, bus stops, nature reserves, school grounds or anywhere else people gather.
  • Visit the area you'd like to litter pick to make sure it's a safe place for you and your group to work.
  • Get permission from the landowner if it's on private land.
  • Check for any other local community groups you could join in your area.
