Samaritans and Future Directions are working together to make Rochdale Borough a Safer Place to live, work and visit

Date published: 25 October 2023

Volunteers from Rochdale, Oldham and District Samaritans were made very welcome by members of the Rochdale Borough Safe Places team at the River Beal Café and Community Hub in Milnrow for the launch of their partnership working to help ‘Make Rochdale a Safer Place for Everyone’.

The Rochdale Safe Place Scheme already includes 65 places across the borough where you can go if you feel unsafe, scared, lost, upset or threatened and someone there will help. Safe Places display a sticker in a window or door to show that they are part of the scheme.

You can also find out where Safe Places are at www.safeplaces.org.uk/member-schemes/rochdale and by downloading a free app. Future Directions’ SPICE group has been working with Rochdale Borough Council to set up the scheme.

Safe Place information packs will now include Samaritans resources – contact cards, listening tips, bookmarks, pens etc, with Samaritans’ number – 116123. This means that more people, who may not have been aware of Samaritans before or know what they do, can make contact with a listening volunteer at any time of the day or night if they ever need to. There is more information about the Samaritans at www.samaritans.org.
