Storm Babet weather alert upgraded to Amber

Persistent heavy rain brings the likelihood of some flooding and disruption
The weather alert covering the Rochdale borough with the arrival of Storm Babet has been upgraded to Amber.
The new weather alert is in place from 12noon on Friday (20 October) until 6am on Saturday morning (21 October).
“Following on from wet weather on Thursday,” the Met Office says, “a further spell of persistent and at times heavy rain will affect parts of southeast Scotland and northern England during Friday, lasting into early Saturday. Widely 40-60 mm of rain is likely to fall.
“Strong easterly winds may exacerbate the impacts of the heavy rain.”
