Date published: 17 October 2023

Rochdale and District Mind celebrated World Mental Health Day on Tuesday 10 October in partnership with NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Talking Therapies Service.

Various groups were held around the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale areas which brought people together to talk openly and honestly about mental health.

Throughout the day, arts and crafts, social cafés, quizzes were held at Rochdale and District Mind Wellbeing Centre, wellbeing chats at Middleton café, BAME women’s group met at Wardleworth Community Centre, and there was a dementia café at Heywood Library.

Councillor Billy Sheerin, assistant to the portfolio holder for adult care and wellbeing, joined in the activities on the day, commenting on 'just how brilliant Mind's work is and how much it is appreciated in the community'.

Mike Ruiter, interim CEO of Rochdale and District Mind said: "We know that our services are urgently needed in our community, perhaps more so today than ever before. As a team, we collectively make that possible.

"You might see in the news the challenges that people in the North face when trying to access mental health support.

"We know that there is a lot more change required in order to meet the demands in the system, and that we too will need to continuously ask ourselves how we can best serve the people of Rochdale and district.”
