Yellow warning for rain Thursday night and Friday

Date published: 12 October 2023

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place across parts of the North West – including the Rochdale borough – for tonight (12 October) and tomorrow.

The Met Office warning is in place from 9pm on Thursday, through to 8pm on Friday.

Heavy rain and strong winds may cause some disruption to travel during Friday.

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

Rain, heavy and persistent at times, will move northeast across much of England and Wales during Thursday night and Friday morning. It will also become windy with gusts of 45-50mph inland. The rain will clear from the northwest through Friday afternoon and evening. Widely 10-20mm of rain is likely, but in the wettest spots 30-50mm is possible, and some high ground of West Wales could see 70mm.
