Driver flees scene after crashing 'stolen' car

A driver of a suspected stolen Seat car has fled the scene after a crash with another vehicle in Heywood centre (Friday 22 September).

The Seat collided with a Fiat on Market Street just after midday and the driver fled on foot. A 70-year-old woman has received minor injuries, police confirmed.

A section of Market Street was closed due to the incident for a couple of hours. 

In a post on Facebook, Heywood police said: “Your Neighbourhood Officers, whilst conducting enquiries, came across a suspected stolen car and after a short pursuit it has crashed.

“There is an increase in officers looking for the offender who is on foot trying to evade and yes, we know who he is.”

Go North West confirmed the 163 bus between Manchester and Bury was diverted:
