Response date for Borrowdale Road planning application extended to 30 September

Date published: 22 September 2023

The deadline for anyone wishing to respond to the controversial Borrowdale Road planning application in Middleton has been extended to 30 September.

A letter sent to local residents previously stated anyone wishing to respond had until 24 September, however notices on the site displayed a different date of 30 September.

The planning application outlines plans to build eight new houses and 22 apartments in three blocks on land at Borrowdale Park, known to locals as the ‘Ponderosa’.

To date, over 730 objections have been received, and 94 comments in favour of the application.

Rochdale Borough Council has clarified that anyone wishing to respond has until 30 September as stated on the site notices.

Mark Robinson, director of economy at Rochdale Borough Council, said: "While we make efforts to ensure that residents receive their letters at the same time that notices are posted on site, this is not always possible.

"As the site notice shows the later date (30 September), all residents have until this date to make a written response to the application.

“In this case, because of the gap between the letter being sent out and the notices being placed around the site, residents have had longer than the usual period of time (24 days), to respond to this application in writing."
