Lisa Rawlinson to Brave the Shave for brain tumour charity

Date published: 20 September 2023

A Rochdale mum is ‘braving the shave’ to raise £2,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Lisa Rawlinson, 36, will be shaving her hair for the charity in honour of three people, including her nine-year-old son, Jacob, who has both a brain tumour and an eye tumour. Jacob was diagnosed with cancer on 26 June this year, with the eye tumour causing him to go blind in his right eye.

Mum of five Lisa is also carrying out the shave in honour of her friend’s partner, who also has a brain tumour, and her grandad, Ronald Sandlilands, who died of a brain tumour when he was 78 in 2009.

She said: “I’m willing to shave all my hair off for my target. It’s around 13 inches long and just past my shoulders, and my hair is being donated to make a wig for cancer patients.

“I want to raise awareness for both brain tumours and cancer.”

Lisa previously shaved her hair off in October 2020 with two other women for a kidney transplant fundraiser.

Every day 30 people in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour. Brain tumours are the leading cancer killer for children and people under the age of 40, yet less than 2% of the £500 million spent on cancer research funding in the UK annually is spent on brain tumours.

The Brain Tumour Charity is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain tumours, making a difference every day to the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families. It funds pioneering research to increase survival, raises awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours and provides support for everyone affected.

The charity’s goals are to double survival within 10 years in the UK and to halve the negative impact that brain tumours have on quality of life.

Lisa will undergo the shave when she reaches her target and will livestream the event on Facebook.
