Littleborough humanitarian who has helped thousands of people in need over the years now needs your help so he can carry on

Date published: 19 September 2023

A Littleborough man who goes out of his way to help others now needs your help to continue his good work.

John Shaw, who has voluntarily helped those in need for years, needs to raise £10,000 for a new van so he can carry on his humanitarian work.

Over the years, John has collected hundreds of tonnes of donations which he has shared with communities, such as homeless groups and food poverty groups like the Two Brews pop-up street kitchen, Angie’s Angels, the Rochdale Soup Kitchen and the Rochdale Homelessness Network.

He has also provided emergency food parcels for struggling families, using his own car and funding his petrol and repairs.

However, John's 17-year-old car is now finally beyond repair, and after being out of work for several months, John is asking for the public’s help to fund a new vehicle so he can continue to help others.

He said: “I looked for vans at £5,000 but they were awful rust buckets that have been around the world five times, so I’ve set the [GoFundMe] target higher. Then I can buy a really reliable van and afford to tax and insure it; that way I can continue to help many groups as I have over the years.

“I feel embarrassed to ask for help as it’s usually me helping but several people have suggested a Go Fund Me to buy a van or large estate car. There’s lots of people worse off than me, so I plod on.

“If you can help please do, if you can, share as well. Thank you.”

Donations can be made via GoFundMe:
