BARDOC out-of-hours doctor service shortlisted for two national awards

Date published: 02 September 2023

The local out-of-hours doctor service BARDOC (Bury and Rochdale Doctors on Call) has been shortlisted for two National Health Service Journal (HSJ) awards.

BARDOC will compete against sixteen others in the two categories for the title of Primary and Community Care Provider of the Year, recognising collaborative working to achieve high standards in patient centered care in the community, and Primary and Community Care Innovation of the Year for its Reactive Falls Service, which deploys a rapid response to people who have fallen in their own homes, ensuring they get the care and ongoing support they need to live independently safely.

CEO of BARDOC, Dr Zahid Chauhan said: “We are honoured to be shortlisted for these prestigious awards amongst such a calibre of other nominees.

“I want to thank all our staff who worked with such compassion on this project whilst also managing a health pandemic and continue to work tirelessly day and night to support the wider health care system.

“We are very proud of our work and look forward to many more years of serving our communities.”

BARDOC has been serving the people of Rochdale since 1996 when local GPs felt that having non-rostered doctors on 24-hour call was affecting the health of both patients – and the medics themselves.

The HSJ awards are considered the most esteemed accolade of healthcare service excellence in the UK and shine a light on the outstanding efforts and achievements the sector has delivered.

The winners will be announced Thursday 16 November at an awards ceremony in Evolution, London.
