Whitworth Community High School high achievers outside school
Year 11 students at Whitworth Community High School are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results on Thursday (24 August).
Headteacher Gill Middlemas said: “I would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 students on their GCSE results – the first results in our new school building,
“There have been some outstanding individual performances, in terms of attainment and also regarding the progress students have made since they joined us in Year 7.
“These results have been achieved through hard work and commitment, through building self-belief and aspiration, and because of the excellent teaching our students have enjoyed throughout their time at Whitworth Community High School.
“Well done to our wonderful Year 11 cohort whose academic successes mean they are well-placed to move onwards and upwards on their ‘Climbing Higher’ journey, thank you to all our staff for going above and beyond inn their work with our young people, thank you to parents and carers for their encouragement and support.”
After achieving better GCSE results than he expected, Louis Watson is now switching from T-levels to A-levels at Rochdale Sixth Form.
He achieved three Grade 8s and five Grade 7s and will be studying A-levels in maths, geography and business and wants a career in engineering.
Sports prefect Andrew will be studying an A-level in higher maths and a BTEC in science and hopes to go on to do mechanical engineering avionics in the RAF, or become a quantity surveyor as a back-up plan.
He achieved a PE Level 2 Distinction Star, a Grade 7 and 6 in combined science, Grade 7 in maths and five other GCSEs.
Head boy Louis said: “I really enjoyed design and technology at high school and want to carry it on. I am over the moon with the results.
“I have been mates with Andrew since Year 8 and now we are both going to Rochdale Sixth Form.”
Prefect Lucy Hanson praised the supportive teaching staff at Whitworth for helping her to achieve a brilliant set of results.
She said: “It has been fun studying here and I have made some great friends. The teachers really gave me a lot of support and intervention when I needed it.”
Lucy is going to Rochdale Sixth Form to study maths and business but is unsure where her career will take her.
She achieved a Grade 8 in religious studies, five Grade 7s, two Grade 6s and a further GCSE.
Would-be choreographer, performer or teacher Georgia Brown has been dancing since she was three at Dansworks Dance Academy of Performing Arts.
She was delighted to collect fantastic GCSE results from Whitworth including a Grade 9 in religious studies, three Grade 8s, three 7s, a Grade 6 and another GCSE and is going to Burnley College.
Georgia said: “I am studying A-levels in psychology, criminology and ancient history and then want to specialise in performing arts at university.”
A career in medicine or cosmetic dentistry, is where Hira Raza sees her future.
At Whitworth she achieved a Grade 9 in religious studies, four Grade 8s, three 7s, and two other GCSEs.
Head girl Hira said: “I was all right while we had to study at home during Covid, but I know some others struggled with wi-fi and access problems.
“School was really good, there was intervention and teachers took their time to help us.”
Hira is starting at Rochdale Sixth Form studying chemistry, maths and sociology.
Accountancy is one of the careers being considered by Ben Hildrath after he achieved an excellent set of GCSE results.
He was awarded the highest Grade 9 in English language and history along with another four Grade 8s, two 7s and a Level 2 Distinction in business studies.
At Rochdale Sixth Form he will study A-levels in maths, economics and history, and then hopes to go to Leeds or Manchester University.
A future in counselling or psychology is the plan for Yves Scragg after she achieved excellent GCSEs.
She obtained two Grade 8s, three Grade 7s, a Grade 6 and two other GCSEs along with a Level 2 Distinction in health and social care.
Yves said: “I am going to Rochdale sixth Form to study psychology and health and social care.
“I did not expect to get a Grade 8 in science. I am so happy.”
