Pedestrian, 76, taken to hospital with serious injuries after collision when crossing road

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision in Middleton on Wednesday afternoon (9 August).

The 76-year-old man, who is understood to have been crossing the road, was taken to hospital after the collision on Wood Street at around 1.35pm.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and he and his family are being supported by specialist officers.

A 63-year-old man remained at the scene where he was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

He was then taken to custody for further questioning and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Initial enquiries suggest that a Vauxhall Astra had been travelling up Wood Street in the direction of Eastway, when the collision occured.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
