One of the male passengers suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital, whilst another man suffered minor injuries.
The motorway was closed until around 10pm with 13 miles of congestion and two-hour wait times whilst emergency services attended the scene.
Police are now appealing for any information as they investigate. Anyone who may have seen something – or who may have dashcam, mobile, or CCTV footage from around the time – is asked to please come forward.
