Middleton Select ABC chosen as filming location for BBC One drama Sherwood

Date published: 29 July 2023

Filming for a critically acclaimed BBC drama will take place at Middleton Select Amateur Boxing Club in September.

The club has been chosen to feature in an episode of the BBC One series Sherwood, which has begun filming its second series.

Middleton Select’s head coach Martyn Lynch said the crew had viewed other clubs across the north west, with both the director and location finder liking Middleton Select.

He said: “We’re very lucky to have been picked.”

The exact filming dates are yet to be determined.

The first series of Sherwood follows an investigation into two killings, inspired, in part by real events in a Nottinghamshire mining village.

The BBC says the new series will “continue the themes of examining the lives and legacy of those governed by Britain’s industrial past with stories from communities of the 'red wall' towns, the controversial deployment of so-called ‘spycops’ and how seismic ripples from the past can come back to haunt the present.”
