Rochdale teenager Milton Danczuk supports Rwandan school

Date published: 26 July 2023

Milton Danczuk, a 15-year-old student at Kingsway Park High School in Rochdale, has collected resources for an afterschool programme in Kigali, Rwanda.

He is flying out to Rwanda later this month so that he can deliver the laptops, study resources, and equipment in person.

The son of former MP Simon Danczuk and former councillor Karen Danczuk said he first visited Rwanda at Christmas 2022 during a family holiday.

He said: “I was made aware of the Gisimba Memorial Center through a mutual friend, and thought they would be a good charity to support.

“Kingsway Park High School’s values are around co-operation, being pioneering, and creating a sense of belonging. I thought that in my small way, I could express those values by helping the Gisimba Center.”

The young Conservative, who is also very involved in the Rochdale Youth Cabinet, continued: “The centre does really good work with children who come from complex families and may have been victims of poverty, famine or the genocide. I wanted to provide practical support so set about collecting educational resources from around Rochdale.”

He concluded: “I would like to thank Barry Sherry at Conexus Tuition; the headteacher at Kingsway, Mr Ward; and Councillor Ashley Dearnley, all of whom have been extremely supportive.”
